SLOW Fashion 1123

SLOW Fashion 1123

As some of you might know, Fast Fashion has tremenduous  negative impact in our society, therefore we must incorporate Slow Fashion approaches in order to slow down the pace of an over consumption mind-set.  Many consumers are purchasing clothing in large quantities that is quickly and poorly produced in horrendous conditions. Luckily a several number of designers and brands are already working this concept and on the 28th of October more specifically Slow Fashion is coming to Copenhagen with focus on quality and sustainability through a designer, who has showcased in Copenhagen, New York & Berlin.

I  had the chance to get an exclusive insight from the head designer and creative director, Josephine Raun, who is behind the new SLOW FASHION concept together with her business partner Jesper Andersen here in Copenhagen.
SLOW Fashion 1123 is a basement presenting a vintage showroom, a designer atelier and a creative space, where it is also possible to buy good quality & sustainable designs. Here you are surrounded by a creative universe highlighted with a lot of positive energy. Phine is such a happy soul that she will make you feel welcome to her universe and she will ensure that you will come out of the store with a big smile on your face. I can guarantee you that!
"At SLOW Fashion 1123 only the imagination sets the boundaries for possibilities and creativity."

An Interview with Josephine Raun:

Why did you start this project?
"SLOW Fashion 1123 has a big place in my heart. It’s not a typical project you have seen in Copenhagen. It has been a long wait, but we are finally getting ready to launch. I have always been a creative soul, who has worked in the fashion industry for 15 years, and I have seen the terrible and negative impacts of the industry (and how hard it is to start your own fashion company!). I have always promised myself that I wanted to make a positive change with my business development and fashion designs by Phine Raun. This project has always been inside of me, and now it is becoming into a reality".

It seems that Other Vintage is more than a vintage store, could you explain your concept?
"Yes – Other Vintage is more than a typical vintage store or thrift shop. We sell second hand clothing, for men and women, that has been uniquely selected, quality control checked, washed and repaired with love. It is a showroom, showcasing vintage and retro designs available for sale and soon online – worldwide shipping. We emphasis on individuality and personality style. We highly believe in personal styling, while respecting the people and planet. Everyone is unique, just like the stars. Dress to impress with individual style."
Where do you get all the items for the store?
"The SLOW Fashion 1123 interior design is remade from recycled furniture or upcycled. We have used a door to create our new kitchen table, reusing old lab cabinets, upcycled pallets to different interior designs, light shades made from an old vacuum heads, broken glass remade onto a bathroom mosaic floor, all the Phine Raun atelier equipment’s have been bought at a tailor – so everything is reused, reloved, recycled and given new life!"
Who designed the store?
"Myself and my business partner, Jesper Fuglevig Andersen – we have designed the store together. We have knocked all the walls down, ripped the wall paper off and given the place a whole new life and energy. All the ‘raw’ brick walls have been painted white and the floor has been painted a mint green colour. We believe in colours and happiness – so you will feel a lot of good vibrations when visiting our basement. We even have a disco ball, to add some sparkle in your day. It’s all very vintage inspired – Jesper has mainly done all the building work with his friends and Phine has been doing the Visual Merchandising. Overall, it is a creative universe – open, transparency and set up with a functional balance."
What is your aspiration for the future?
"This is just the beginning for SLOW Fashion 1123. We would like to expand, but first, we want to start small and local – keep it close and work with our peers, business neighbours, networkers, designers and other creative people who have the same SLOW FASHION vision and goals, just like us. Our motto is: “Think Global, Work Local”.
